COMMITTEE
REPORTS
TREASURER: Jane
Chester presented the financial state of the synagogue.
MEN’S CLUB: Rodney
Ugent reported that they are having a tailgate party and Brewers
outing on September 12 with other Men’s Clubs from Chicago. The
September Beer and Bible will be on August 30. The concession
stands have been cancelled twice.
SISTERHOOD:
Phyllis Wiggins reported that Sisterhood has donated $180 to the
synagogue for the phone tree. There will be a training session for
the executive committee on August 29 for team building and
membership. The book club meeting will be on September 1 and they
will be discussing Sima’s Undergarments for Women. The next

WINE TASTING: The
wine tasting event on August 15 was very nice and attended by about
30 people.
RABBI: Rabbi
Crystal spoke about: the lack of continuity in clergy over the past
5 years, the opportunities for people to participate in services
which many like, although there is an inconsistency in levels of
ability, working with the school, 2 upcoming interfaith programs-one
on September 25 and the ecumenical Thanksgiving service, the Elder
Class is going well, one family is interested in conversion, she
attended the Shalom Milwaukee event sponsored by the Federation
which was all young yuppies and more Federation people than others,
2 classes on preparing for the High Holidays on August 19 & 26, the
Torah reading will be on ground level for the High Holidays and she
is working with Rudy and others to put a table in the sanctuary for
that purpose, children’s services, English readings, and a small
booklet she is putting together with the titles and composers of the
music the choir is doing along with inspirational readings.
PHONE TREE: David
Kazilsky reported that the phone tree is up and running and Donna is
using it for those who do not receive email. People seem to
appreciate the phone call.
CANTOR’S HOUSE:
The Cantor’s house needs structural as well as cosmetic repairs.
The house has to be fixed before it can be rented or sold. If it is
rented until we find out if we need a parsonage we could recoup the
money spent on fixing it.
PUBLICITY: Al Simon
met with Leo Weinshel to revise the ads for membership. We need to
be visible. There is a difference between advertising and
publicity.
OLD BUSINESS
Al Simon met with
the contact in Chicago and gave away the Torah we are donating to
the synagogue in France.
NEW BUSINESS
Fred Meyer moved,
second David Kazilsky to hire Donald Cohen to act as appraiser for
the Cantor’s house with a cost not to exceed $500 to determine the
repair needs. Motion carried. |
