The March 24
meeting of the Beth El Ner Tamid Board of Trustees was called to
order at 7:40 p.m. by President Al Simon. Barbara Abrams, Melanie
Bandos, Patricia Chamoy, Jane Chester, Rabbi Crystal, Harvey
Kaufman, David Kazilsky, Nancy Kellman, Fred Meyer, Neal Plotkin, Al
Simon, Deanna Spanjar, and Ilene Wasserman were present along with
guests Joe Hirschberg and Debbie Intravaia.
GOODS AND SERVICES AUCTION:
The board discussed having a goods and services auction in lieu of a
rummage sale. The previous auction was held 12 years ago and our
synagogue made $25,000. We will need volunteers to come forward to
help make this happen. Pat Chamoy discussed why having such an
auction was so important.
SCHOOL:
Debbie Intravaia reported that the goal of the school is to become better
known in the community. She spoke
about the many programs and fundraisers they are doing and the
participation of the Men’s Club and Sisterhood.
The teachers
all come with a great deal of experience and all the parents and
students are very happy.
MEN’S CLUB:
Neal Plotkin reported that Yom Ha Shoah is April 11th and yellow candles
have been sent out. On April 25th, Neal Schaefer, an expert in Nazi
Counterfeiting Operations will speak at a breakfast and program.
May 9th will be the annual Mother’s Day brunch. Installation of
officers will also be in May. Everyone is invited.
RABBI'S REPORT:
Rabbi Crystal reported that she is very excited by the warmth and
generosity of the Beth El family. She is reaching out and making
phone calls and visiting the sick and wants to start a group to do
this. She also wants to start a Chevra Kadisha group in the
synagogue to reach out to those in mourning. She also has ideas for
adult education, Shavuot study, etc. and is looking at how we
operate, what is working and what is not.
SISTERHOOD:
Deanna Spanjar reported that Sisterhood Shabbat was last weekend with
wonderful food, lots of participation in the service, and an
interesting discussion after lunch with Rabbi Crystal. Friday night
dinner was very nice and we are thinking of doing more dinners
during the year perhaps with the Men’s Club. The Torah Fund
luncheon is on May 2nd and we are honoring Nancy Kellman as Woman of
Achievement.
TREASURER:
Jane Chester reported on our financial status including accounts
receivable and payable.
OFFICE PERSONNEL:
Al Simon reported that Donna and Judy had been working with Dortha over
the past few weeks to learn new responsibilities and everyone
expects a smooth transition. Al also reported on maintenance issues
which have been addressed. Jane Chester talked about 2 board members
who will be double-checking each bill before it can be paid. This
will add an additional layer of security to ensure we are being
billed correctly.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE:
Bob Rudman was appointed chair of the Nominating Committee.
Additional members will be elected.
RABBIS WELCOME
WEEKEND:
April 23rd and 24th will be a welcome Shabbat for
Rabbi Crystal. Dinner Friday night will be $18.00. There will be
an enhanced Kiddush on Saturday sponsored by Chevra Mishna and
anybody who wishes to make a contribution can have their name in the
weekly handout.
